Major emergency exercise held in the Midland region
A multi-agency emergency exercise was coordinated by officials from the Midland Regional Major Emergency Management Team yesterday.
The scenario was a road traffic incident involving an overturned bus with passengers and other vehicles and involved Principal Response Agencies and the Civil Defence. The exercise was held at the Golden Vale Mart in Tullamore.
The Laois/Offaly Garda Division, the HSE, National Ambulance Service, Fire & Rescue Services from Offaly and Laois, Offaly Civil Defence and Local Authorities from counties Offaly, Laois and Westmeath all took part in the training exercise.
Garda Inspector Oliver Baker, Tullamore, led the exercise on behalf of An Garda Síochána.
An on-site coordination centre and a temporary mortuary was established on site. The exercise was to test the preparedness and inter-operability of all agencies in the event of a major incident such as this occurring in the Midland region.
